Where You Will Work

The Police Accountability Board is an independent agency within the City of Rochester charged with overseeing and reimagining Rochester’s policing system. The Board investigates potential wrongdoing by Rochester police officers, brings change and transparency to the Rochester Police Department, and educates and engages community members in the work of reimagining public safety. The Board is committed to performing these tasks in a workplace defined by accountability, equity, transparency. The Board’s headquarters are located in Rochester’s downtown core.

What You Will Do

This policy-focused position perform various oversight and analytical assignments for the Police Accountability Board including: reviewing public safety policy, programs, legislation, and research studies; assisting in the obtaining and analyzing of data, documents, and testimony from the Rochester Police Department and other City agencies; providing research and logistical support for oversight investigations and hearings; and developing and preparing reports, policy proposals, administrative rules, and legislation. They may provide technical assistance to other agencies within City government and community organizations in Rochester seeking to reimagine public safety. Occasional participation in PAB community engagement efforts as and when required.

Who We Are Looking To Hire

The ideal candidate for this position is someone with experience analyzing data and information regarding policing and/or government programs. Typical work experience for an ideal candidate would be that gained in academia, a government policy unit, or a non-profit setting. We are also looking for a candidate who can be a creative thinker when it comes to policy proposals, looking beyond white papers to other tools for change such as community actions, executive orders, legislation, and administrative rules.

To qualify for this position, you must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. plus one of the following:

  1. Four (4) years of experience in administrative analysis, budget analysis, grants application, or analysis of fiscal or monetary programs for a public or private institution, agency or department; or
  2. Three (3) years of the above experience and an Associate’s degree in a field closely related to business administration or public administration; or
  3. Two (2) years of the above experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a field closely related to business administration or public administration; or
  4. One (1) year of the above experience and a Master’s degree in a field closely related to business administration or public administration.

This position has a residency requirement. If hired for this position, you will have one year to move within the City of Rochester. Continued residency in the City will be required throughout your tenure. 

This jobs falls within the “competitive” class of civil service positions. If you are hired to this position, you will be given a provisional appointment that allows you to work in the position until a civil service exam is created and administered.
