Where You Will Work

The Police Accountability Board is an independent agency within the City of Rochester charged with overseeing and reimagining Rochester’s policing system. The Board investigates potential wrongdoing by Rochester police officers, brings change and transparency to the Rochester Police Department, and educates and engages community members in the work of reimagining public safety. The Board is committed to performing these tasks in a workplace defined by accountability, equity, transparency. The Board’s headquarters are located in Rochester’s downtown core.

What You Will Do

The Director of Staff Support & Development is responsible for the coordination, development and implementation of the Police Accountability Board’s (PAB) onboarding, training and professional development programsPrimary responsibilities include the development of human resource policies, procedures and systems and the implementation of strategies, initiatives and programs to promote efficient and effective human resource management. This employee serves as the liaison between the PAB and Human Resources and is responsible for supervising the Associate Director of Staff Support, which may provide or coordinate direct training to employees. General supervision is received from a higher level employee. Occasional participation in PAB community engagement efforts as and when required.

In addition to this standard benefits package, employees in this position will undergo extensive training in oversight, policing, and public safety reform. Moreover, working in this position can qualify employees for student loan forgiveness through the federal government’s Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Minimum Qualifications & Additional Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must have (at minimum) one of the following:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years experience administering an employee safety, staff development or adult education program, experience which shall have included responsibility for administering a budget; or
  2. A Master’s degree and two (2) years experience as defined above.

If hired for this position, you will have one year to move within the City of Rochester. Continued residency in the City will be required throughout your tenure. 

This jobs falls within the “competitive” class of civil service positions. If you are hired to this position, you will be given a provisional appointment that allows you to work in the position until a civil service exam is created and administered.
