Where You Will Work

The Police Accountability Board is an independent agency within the City of Rochester charged with overseeing and reimagining Rochester’s policing system. The Board investigates potential wrongdoing by Rochester police officers, brings change and transparency to the Rochester Police Department, and educates and engages community members in the work of reimagining public safety. The Board is committed to performing these tasks in a workplace defined by accountability, equity, transparency. The Board’s headquarters are located in Rochester’s downtown core.

What You Will Do

The Director of Information Systems is involved in all technical aspects related to the development and maintenance of databases, systems, processes, and methods for the Police Accountability Board. The Director serves as the primary point of contact between the Board and the City’s Information Technology Department, which also provides significant day-to-day I.T. support to the Board. This position also functions as the webmaster for the Police Accountability Board, serving as the point person for the maintenance and development of the Board’s website. This position is responsible for partnering with the City’s Information Technology Department in planning, managing, and coordinating the computing activity and information systems of the Police Accountability Board. Occasional participation in PAB community engagement efforts as and when required.

Who We Are Looking To Hire

The Board is looking for someone with a strong background in information technology who can serve as a “jack-of-all-trades.” Experience providing I.T. support in a diverse work environment and/or environments with significant security needs is a significant plus. The ideal candidate is someone who has a diverse portfolio or resume of I.T. work.

To qualify for this position, you must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. plus one of the following:

  1. An Associate’s degree in computer science or a closely related field and: six (6) years of experience performing a variety of tasks in program development and maintenance for a variety of business applications, two (2) of which were in web page design and development; or
  2. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least nine (9) credit hours in computer information systems, three (3) of which were in programming language, and five (5) years experience as described above, two (2) of which were in web page design and development.

If hired for this position, you will have one year to move within the City of Rochester. Continued residency in the City will be required throughout your tenure. 

This jobs falls within the “competitive” class of civil service positions. If you are hired to this position, you will be given a provisional appointment that allows you to work in the position until a civil service exam is created and administered.
