Where You Will Work
The Police Accountability Board is an independent agency within the City of Rochester charged with overseeing and reimagining Rochester’s policing system. The Board investigates potential wrongdoing by Rochester police officers, brings change and transparency to the Rochester Police Department, and educates and engages community members in the work of reimagining public safety. The Board is committed to performing these tasks in a workplace defined by accountability, equity, transparency. The Board’s headquarters are located in Rochester’s downtown core.
What You Will Do
The Deputy Chief of Investigations serves in the Board’s Investigations Division, where they serve as the deputy to the Police Accountability Board’s Chief of Investigations. In this position, the Deputy leads and supervises investigative teams that examine potential cases of wrongdoing by Rochester police officers. The Deputy will issue information requests, draft subpoenas, interview witnesses, draft investigative reports, and conduct the necessary supervision and training to ensure that subordinate staff perform these tasks appropriately. Occasional participation in PAB community engagement efforts as and when required. Flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends as needed.

The Board is looking to fill this position with someone with experience supervising attorneys and/or investigative staff. We are looking for a leader who can build and develop diverse, functional teams. The most desirable candidates are those with experience in high-intensity work environments (e.g., public defender’s offices).

Minimum Qualifications & Additional Requirements
To qualify for this position, you must have (at minimum):
- Graduated from a law school of recognized standing; and
- Three (3) years of experience as an attorney admitted to practice in New York State, one (1) year of which included directly supervising other attorneys.
If hired for this position, employee will have one year to move within the City of Rochester. Continued residency in the City is required throughout the employee’s tenure.
