Where You Would Work
The Police Accountability Board is an independent agency within the City of Rochester charged with overseeing and reimagining Rochester’s policing system. The Board investigates potential wrongdoing by Rochester police officers, brings change and transparency to the Rochester Police Department, and educates and engages community members in the work of reimagining public safety. The Board is committed to performing these tasks in a workplace defined by accountability, equity, transparency. The Board’s headquarters are located in Rochester’s downtown core.
What You Would Do
The Chief of Policy & Oversight heads the Board’s Policy & Oversight Division, which is responsible for identifying and addressing systems-level issues in Rochester’s policing and public safety system. The Chief is responsible for ensuring that Rochester’s community members play a central role in defining the Board’s policy agenda. The Chief of Policy & Oversight is responsible for directing and planning the Board’s policy and oversight work, updating and implementing the Board’s policies and procedures regarding systemic investigations and policy generation, managing mid-level supervisors in the Division, and ensuring quality control over all oversight and policy operations. The Chief of Investigations serves as the public face of the Board’s policy and oversight work. Flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends as needed.

In addition to this standard benefits package, employees in this position would undergo extensive training in oversight, policing, and public safety reform. Proposed Qualifications & Requirements
To qualify for this proposed position, you may have to meet the following proposed minimum qualifications, which include a high school diploma or G.E.D. plus:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a social science field and six (6) years of experience developing and managing policy development or oversight functions and two (2) years of experience supervising staff; or
- A Master’s degree in a social science field and four (4) years of experience developing and managing policy development or oversight functions and two (2) years of experience supervising staff.
This position would have a residency requirement. If hired for this position, you would have one year to move within the City of Rochester. Continued residency in the City would be required throughout your tenure.
